ECO-VIVE IS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN HUMANS AND THE NATURAL WORLD…

OUR MAIN ENVIRONMENT IS THE SEA…but we have to work with the land too and not everybody goes diving like the group of school kids here on their baptism of scuba diving experience and the ecology of the very important little island of Lobos, off the northern end of Fuerteventura during May 0f 2006.

This was an event organized essentially by eco-vive with the collaboration of the regional government (Cabildo de Fuerteventura – Consejeria de Juventud y Educación) office of Youth & Education during a weekend long visit to the island of Lobos in which there was the scuba & snorkelling, an island ecology walk, canoeing and some games on the beach…a picnic lunch and a glass-bottom boat ride over the shallow outer reefs made a very interesting day for 35 youngsters aged between 15&25.

This was an educative sojourn as well and a PowerPoint presentation focused on the importance of the marine world to the survival of man and the ecological elements of the history of the little island of Lobos, that was once home to a colony of the MEDITERRANEAN MONK SEAL (Monachus monachus) which was destroyed principally by the local fishermen in the 1920’s. It also used to be the nesting site for the CORY SHEARWATER (Pardela cenicenta) but it was also destroyed by man.

We may not have convinced them all, but some took it seriously and had questions. That was good…there is nothing stopping you from having this kind of experience and also becoming a diver to enjoy the underwater environment…this amongst other activities is what eco-vive is about. |
