VISTORS AND SCUBA

Programme Dates 2006/7

Due to difficulties with obtaining flights on certain dates the 2006/7 programme is open to date selection in favour of the potential visitor and works by you asking for your preferred week or two ... this means that the programme only works for groups of 4-8 persons who wish to travel on their desired dates. Thus flights need to be assured first and we will confirm provision of our programme.

Scuba Diving Programme

There are two programmes of scuba diving both of which carry the same theme being “discover the marine biodiversity of Boa Vista & the sustainable diving module”.

They are however for the two different groups of fully certified diver and “discover Scuba” persons who can obtain a scuba experience without pre-amble to a full course which can be achieved at a later date, although the dives can be utilised towards a formal qualification.

For the non-diver it is necessary to make a declaration that you do not suffer the following: diabetes ... asthma ... epilepsy. This will prevent any scuba activity. Also that you do not have any problems with ears or sinuses and that you acquire from your doctor a valid certificate that you are healthy and may participate in compressed air activities, namely scuba. Your depths will be limited in any event to 9 meters.

You should however bring your own snorkel, mask, fins and ideally a shortie 5mm wet suit ... the dive centre will provide tank, weights and stab jacket/regulator, plus the necessary pre training.

For certified divers your C-Card and importantly your dive log book along with your personal dive kit of Stab/Ablj ... DV Rig ... and a wet suit (shortie) of 5mm plus your M/F/Sn ... an underwater lamp useful and particularly a u/w camera.

The activities will include a pre dive talk about the dive areas and objectives ... all diving in this respect will remain within the 12 meter band. The marine life of Boa Vista has similarities with the Caribbean though variations are in existence ... the programme will concentrate around two wrecks.

The “sustainable diving module” is one of skills and observations to diving logistics especially in sensitive biodiverse areas. This is a basic module to stimulate interest in the marine life and the manner in which one needs to conduct oneself around the environment.
